ANST has created a Chapter Program to coordinate communication between itself and graduate students across the country. The Chapter Program was created in response to the prevalent concern expressed by students that they need more discussion of training and professional issues, particularly the training trajectory of neuropsychology.
ANST chapters serve a number of functions: They assist the Division 40 committee in disseminating important information about training and professional issues relevant to the field of neuropsychology. ANST seeks to provide a concrete mechanism for feedback between students and its parent organization, APA Division 40. |
|
They ensure that students at all levels of training in neuropsychology are well informed of both education and career opportunities.
They provide a regular forum for students to discuss, debate, and provide feedback on a variety of issues that can be shared with students across the country. We will facilitate discussion through monthly topical seminars at local universities, while also providing interactive links and forums on the ANST web site that will allow students to dialogue about professional issues with each other and professionals on both the local and national level.
They serve as a vehicle for creating chapters and soliciting chapter representatives. ANST Chapters are the medium through which ANST communicates with students across the country. By becoming a chapter, you will be furthering a key mission of ANST to increase student discussion and involvement in training and professional issues relevant to the field of neuropsychology.

We thank you for your interest in serving as a Chapter Representative for the Association of Neuropsychology Students in Training (ANST)! Being a chapter representative is a rewarding and valuable experience in leadership, professional commitment and activity, and networking with other trainees and neuropsychologists around the country.
The process of becoming a chapter representative and/or starting a chapter begins with thoroughly reading our Chapter & Chapter Representative Primer. This will give you a good idea of the duties and responsibilities entailed in creating and/or leading an ANST chapter. As a representative of ANST and by extension Division 40, you are a role model for others and as such we do expect you to be active within your own chapter as well as on the ANST listserv, social networking groups, and at ANST/Division-sponsored conference events. After you have fully read the Primer, please read the following two points that are contained within but we feel are important to re-emphasize:
Verification of Program Eligibility: Chapter approval represents endorsement by APA Division 40. Thus, your program must be able to show that it offers specialty training in neuropsychology in terms of didactics, research, and/or clinical experiences, and that your prospective faculty sponsor is a clinical neuropsychologist. This initial verification process is completed on a chapter-by-chapter basis. ANST reserves the right to decline applications if your program does not appear to meet these criteria. If your is declined, ANST invites your program to reapply after making suggested changes to satisfy these criteria.
Annual Verification of Chapter Eligibility: ANST not only assesses the eligibility of prospective programs, but also evaluates the activities of its chapters on annual basis. Each year, ANST requires that all chapters complete an annual update form to ensure that each chapter is able to maintain active status within the organization. This requires continuing supervision by the faculty sponsor, presence of one or more chapter representatives, regular meetings and/or chapter events, and sufficient member involvement. During the annual update process, chapter representatives are required to complete the required documentation in a timely and thorough manner. If a chapter is unable to keep up with these responsibilities, ANST will provide a warning, followed by temporary deactivation of the chapter's status until it complies. If a chapter continues to have difficulty meeting these responsibilities, ANST will remove the chapter.
If at this point you have fully read the Chapter & Chapter Representative Primer and the important points outlined above, you are now ready to complete the Chapter Representative Application. If you are starting a chapter, this application satisfies your request to be instated as a Chapter Representative as well as founds your chapter. If you are applying to be a representative of an already existing chapter, this application satisfies your request to become the new Chapter Representative of that chapter. We will also seek verification of the leadership transfer from the existing Chapter Representative of Record.
Welcome to the ANST Chapter & Chapter Representative program!
